Manchester United V Derby County Preview

.

Premiership Champions Manchester United welcome struggling Derby County on Saturday in the English Premiership.

Manchester United currently occupy second place in the Premiership following their comfortable 2-0 victory over Fulham on Monday.
United and striker Carlos Tevez in particular were guilty of missing numerous chances in front of goal, in a game that they could and should have won by a bigger margin.
A goal in each half from winger Cristiano Ronaldo was enough to secure the three points in front of a big crowd at Old Trafford.
United did allow Fulham a few opportunities to score, which manager Alex Ferguson will hope not to see again on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney made his return to the side and lasted seventy minutes before being rested. Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra were both substituted in that match after suffering side effects of a virus, United will hope that both players can overcome their illness in time for this fixture.
If they are unable to, John O'Shea is likely to play at left back and Gerard Pique may be given a rare start at centre back. Gary Neville could make his way back into the squad if called upon following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an injury, although a place amongst the substitutes is more likely.

Derby County are stuck at the foot of the table and many believe that they will be relegated back to the Championship once the season is over.
Newly appointed manager Paul Jewell has a tough task on his hand, but he will be encouraged by his new sides battling performance in their last fixture.
At Sunderland, Derby arguably created the better chances in the match and deserved the point that they had looked to have earned before a stoppage time goal broke the Rams' supporters hearts.

Derby are likely to adopt a defensive formation as they will surely aim to thwart the Man United attackers. If they opt to start with two strikers, expect Steve Howard to partner Kenny Miller, although a 4-5-1 system is more likely to be used by the team.

Many football fans will expect Man United to win this fixture comfortably, but Derby will be looking to cause an upset.
