Introduction to Golf etiquette

.
Golf is a game played in a vast open field by individuals or teams. The aim of the game is to strike the golf balls with the special clubs into the holes. Generally there are nine or eight holes and the player who strikes the ball into the hole with least shots get to win the game.

Like all sports golf too is played with the objective of winning the game. Players have to follow the general rules and regulations of the game. All players are expected to maintain and follow some basic etiquette while on the game field or while communication with the players, organizers or workers.

Proper etiquette and good mannerism will be well accepted and the player might be well known and popular for his good behavior. Thus the golf player needs to know and follow some basic etiquette. There is no written rule or gospel to preach such etiquette to the golf players. Forethought, conscious behavior and mutual respect will help the player to sustain himself in the game for long.

Golf is a long and tiring game and the need to maintain the poise and humor is much necessary to keep off frustration and tension among players. ‘Do unto others what you might want others to do unto you’ is a popular and very appropriate phrase as far as the inter relationship among the golf players is concerned. Respect others to get back the respect that you rightly deserve.

Carry yourself with ease and do not talk or laugh loudly. A decent behavior will go a long way in accessing your personality among the players and the viewers. Punctuality is a very imperative thing to follow especially when you are playing for tournaments or matches. Be in time or rather before the time allotted so that you can interact and get comfortable with the players and the coaches. Maintain complete silence when another player is focusing on his shot, and be ready to go for your shot without any delay. Leave the spot immediately making way for the next player after playing your shot.

Always maintain good relationship with the golf club members and administration people. Tip off the workers then and there, especially who offer to carry your bags around when you were playing the game and don’t always be too serious about the game. After its just a game played to have fun and entertainment.

Easy Ways to Improve Your Golf Score

.

Most games are all about getting the highest score and waving the flag of victory. Golf, on the other hand, has the best players striving to brag about their low scores. The game may be different, but the competitive spirit is just as strong.

Lowering your golf score can require more than a little hard work. First, you need to have the drive and desire to become a better golfer, and be willing to practice to achieve the perfect swing. You'll find that once you've begun a solid plan of action, and increased your desire to play better golf, you will become a better golfer. You will improve your golf score and you will earn more respect on the golf course.

* Put Your Mind to It

Becoming a great golfer lies in your ability to sharpen your wits while you improve your physical game. A keen mental ability is essential on the course, so begin improving your game by changing how you think and feel about the sport itself. A good attitude will lead to improvements in your score and your overall game.

* Practice Your Putts

Avid golfers will tell you that any time is the perfect time to putt. Take the time to practice whenever you have a spare moment. Pick up a portable putting green and practice your putt at home and at the office. Take the kids for a game of mini-putt. With repeat practice you'll be able to gain control over your putter and, ultimately, control over the ball. Extra efforts today will bring improved skills that you'll appreciate over time. Practice whenever, and wherever, you can.

* Get in Touch with Your Turf

Your knowledge of the terrain can make or break your game. Know the greens, the traps and the fairways. Play with different clubs until you're sure which ones work best in each situation. Be ready for any situation and you will be able to overcome any challenges that come your way. Understand the green and you'll be on top of your game.

* Listen to Criticism

You will always meet golfers that have a little more experience. If you're lucky, he or she will offer to share that hard-earned knowledge with you. It's important that you're able to recognize your own shortcomings, accept criticism and embrace the opinions that are offered to you. Improving your weak areas is often the only way to better your game and lower your golf score. Accept advice from other golfers and use it whenever you can. They've learned their lessons the hard way, and can offer valuable information to solve your problems and give you a professional edge.

* Keep Your Cool

Don't play the big shot on the green. Go ahead and celebrate your personal victories, but remember that no one likes a showoff. Don't come across as arrogant when you're playing a great game. Be proud of your efforts and your success, and keep your ego in check. Your great score will be little consolation if no one will play the next round with you.

There are many ways to lower your golf score. Remember, however, that if you don't take the time to practice, all the tips, tricks, hints and advice won't amount to anything. Relax, take your time and apply all of those bits of knowledge to your game. Don't forget to have fun. It is just a game, after all.

Arnold Palmer is one of the most famous players ever to have picked up a set of golf clubs.

.

Arnold Palmer is one of the most famous players ever to have picked up a set of golf clubs.

The King of Golf Clubs

Arnold Palmer is one of the most famous players in golf and while he reigned he was the king of his golf clubs, which explains why he was dubbed ‘The King’.

The final swing

In 2006, he retired his golf clubs aged 77, instantly entering the hall of fame with the other famous players of golf’s old school, such as Jack Nicklaus. He finally laid his golf clubs to rest after hitting consecutive golf balls into a water hazard during the Champions Tour in Texas.

“I've been doing this for a long time and, first of all, to stand out there and not be able to make something happen is very traumatic in my mind,” Palmer told a UK newspaper about the incident. “The people, they all want to see a good shot - and you know it and you can't give them that good shot. That's when it's time.”

World’s most famous player

It was a tough game, but he finished it despite having to rest several times and even take pills to keep the aching pain away. It was clearly a historic moment. Palmer’s playing partner Lee Trevino confirmed the King’s status as one of the world’s most famous players – as soon as he put down his golf clubs, Trevino made him sign his golf ball and glove. “We didn’t take his shoes,” Trevino joked.

Quartet of famous players

Many believe that Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus were the holy quartet of famous players who turned golf into a global game, leaving a blaze of glory with their golf clubs. Palmer and Nicklaus became famous players at the right time in history – as the world watched them swing their golf clubs on TV for the first time. TV meant their profiles, and earnings, were higher than any previous golfers in America.

Golfing everyman

Palmer’s fame was also consolidated by his Brando swagger and the fact that thousands looked up to him as an example of following their dreams. Palmer had more appeal than other famous players thanks to his humble background – his father was a greenkeeper at a golf club in Pennsylvania. He was the golfing everyman.

Affable and fallible

Today’s new breed of players with sponsorship deals to be the face of branded golf clubs and golf balls are perhaps more famous than any of the 1950s generation. Tiger Woods for example has redefined the meaning of fame and golf. But Woods has an indestructible persona; Palmer on the other hand was more affable and fallible to golf fans.
“I have a tip that can take five strokes off anyone’s golf game,” Palmer wise-cracked: “It's called an eraser.”

Practice Your Swing the Easy Way

.

Any experienced golfer will tell you that despite having the priciest clubs, the whitest shoes, or the most technologically-advanced golf balls, you just can't be a good golfer if you don't have a decent swing.

A consistent and reliable swing is the key to playing a great game of golf. Not only will a good swing save your game, but it will also save face on the green. Everyone is watching you at the first tee, and they'll all see if you miss the ball or send it careening off course. Save yourself the embarrassment and take the time to practice your swing.

Buying all of the right equipment and reading stacks of golfing books and magazines means nothing if you have a poor swing. In order to make it as a golfer you need to look and act like a golfer. You won't learn how to swing a golf club overnight, so don't let yourself get too frustrated. Practice as often as you can. Many golfers have been practicing for years with the utmost dedication and observation before becoming comfortable with their swings. Even pro golfers don't make a perfect drive every time.

Most people are on the right track as they initially approach the swing. The problem is, they tend to stray because they suddenly change their stance or lose their grip.

The first step to learning how to swing a golf club is finding a club that feels good to you. You need to have the right grip, and the length of your club must be perfect. Make sure that you're relaxed while approaching the tee. Don't tense up. When you feel calm, you are ready to take your stance. If the position of your body isn't just right, you'll have a poor back swing, a poor downswing and a poor follow through. Basically, stance is everything in performing a great swing. Keep your body strong throughout the back swing, downswing and follow through. Practice is the key to a becoming a great golfer.

Start with the backswing. Take the club and raise it to the proper height behind you. Swing the club downward until you are in the downswing position. At this point, you will hit the ball. Next, be sure to complete your follow through or you will send the ball flying off-course. Those boxes of golf balls can get pricey to replace, so keep your balls on the green by practicing your swing.

If you need extra help with your swing, you can rent instructional videos or DVDs, or you can hire a professional instructor. Taking lessons can be expensive, but the one-on-one instruction and hands-on experience is usually worth the money. If cash is a concern, it's probably best to just get out on the course and practice. Visit a driving range and practice your swing by driving a few buckets of balls. Use trial and error to perfect your swing.

The big difference between good golfers and great golfers is usually found in the swing. By practicing your swing, you'll be surprised at how quickly your game can improve.

Respecting Golf Etiquette

.

Golf is an ancient game that carries age-old rules of etiquette. Among the many codes of golf etiquette are some strict attire guidelines. Most golfers will happily respect and comply with the rules of etiquette, and these polite players are welcome at proper golf courses.

If you scoff and consider the rules "stodgy", on the other hand, you'll be destined to play your games at golf courses that share your disdain. That is, of course, if you can find one.

Public and private golf courses enforce etiquette rules to some degree, and nearly all courses will hold restrictions on golf apparel. The use of proper golf attire is considered to be one of the most important areas of etiquette. Collared shirts, long pants and proper golf shoes are the most common of golf course dress code requirements. These rules come into play on the links and in the clubhouse, and respectful players are happy to oblige.

The primary rule of etiquette on the course itself is to arrive promptly for your scheduled tee time. It's important to arrive at the course twenty to thirty minutes before your tee time. This allows ample time to park the car, change your clothes, purchase balls, pick up a cart, warm up and practice. Don't arrive at the course five minutes early and expect to hit the driving range right away.

Most golf etiquette is based on age-old rules, but one important rule is a sign of the times. You cell phone or pager is not welcome on the golf course. Leave it in the car or in your locker. If you cannot leave your phone behind, turn the ringer off and tuck the phone into your golf bag. You can check for messages and return them when it's respectful to do so.

Golf etiquette is all about being mindful of other players. Have a clear understanding of how the other players in your group want to play, and keep their wishes in mind. Should the first golfer to tee off be the first person who's ready to go, or should the player with the best score on the last hole start first? You can very easily offend a stranger if you join their group and don't play by their rules, so be careful.

Always respect the other golfers' need for a quiet place to play. The game of golf requires precision and a great deal of concentration. Golfers can be unforgiving if they think you've blown their big shot. Golf etiquette requires your ability to stay quiet and keep out of the shooter's direct line of vision. It's not always easy to abide by this rule when you're having fun with you buddies, but it is the very basis of golf etiquette.

To you, golf may be a fun game. Others, however, see it as a showcase of their good breeding and even an opportunity to climb the social ladder. It's serious stuff. If you enjoy playing a game of golf, you've got to respect the fact that there's more to golf etiquette than just a persnickety dress code. These rules are part of a culture and tradition that have been observed by generations of golfers. Press your collared shirt, put on your long-legged chinos and lace up your golf shoes. Tee off with due respect

Country Club Golf

.

Almost all country club golf courses will let none members play for a payable green fee. You need to balance this cost against the cost of a membership as the amount you spend n green fees would of course depend on how much golf you play.

If it costs you $25 to play a round and you only ever play Sunday mornings then you are only spending $1300 a year on your golf. If your local country club wants say $2000 for an annual membership then it would be silly to take up the offer unless you were going to make use their other facilities such as tennis courts etc. Play two rounds a week however and obviously it is a different story and you should join the club.

While primarily considering joining the country club for its golf course, you will want to know if there is an in house league, how often competitions are held, is there a spa, swimming pool etc. If you are taking out a family membership you will want to know what facilities they have that will interest your partner and children while you are on the course.

For many people joining the local country club is all about status. These clubs can be important for making important business contacts etc. as the club house is usually the center of the social life. While some may be joining to perhaps get closer to potential customers for ther business others join so their teenage children can make new friends and contacts as they approach adult hood. The country club golf house is a great place for kids to learn correct etiquette.

For true golfers though, these are just added bonuses to being a member of what is hopefully a great golf course. As a golfer, what might be of interest is that many country club golf shops offer discounts to their members. These can range from 10% up to 20% and you could also be offered discount green fees to any none members who accompany you for a round of golf.

Some country clubs offer a monthly membership which can be a good idea if you are new to the area and want to try several golf courses before deciding on which country club you will be joining.

You can buy property that is within the borders of many country clubs. These homes are usually (but not always) aimed at active retirement couples and usually come with country club golf membership already in the price of the property. One such club is the Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma. The community is gated for security and the championship golf course was recently redesigned by Tom Kites. Not a bad place to retire!

These live in country club golf courses are very popular in Europe, in particular Portugal and Spain. Already tens of thousands have taken early retirement from northern european countries such as England and made a new life for themselves with a warmer climate and world class golf.

Everything You Wanted to Know about Golf Clubs, almost!

.

A good set of golf clubs is the weapon of choice for the advanced golfer. A complete set of clubs consists of at least one driver, fairway woods (which are now metal woods), irons and a putter. Some clubs in recent years have been replaced with hybrid golf clubs to replace longer irons and fairway metal woods.

There is an entity known as the USGA or the United States Golf Association. This group determines the rules of golf, including the number of golf clubs that can be used in a round of golf. This limit is fourteen golf clubs. Normally, the standard golfer would have one driver, one putter, three wedges, seven irons, and two fairway woods in their golf bag. The combination of golf clubs is as varied as there are golfers. Hybrid golf clubs have begun replacing some of the longer golf irons and fairway woods in the golf bag.

A driver is a long-shafted club with a full head used to strike the ball that is set upon a tee. The club head does not have much lift to it, to achieve maximum distance off the tee. The club head on these golf club drivers is limited in size. Most brand name drivers cost between $200 and $400. For the budget-minded golfer, discount golf drivers can be purchase for much less. The price for discount golf club drivers can be less than $100.

Typical fairway woods normally consist of a 3, 5 and 7 wood. The club heads used to be made of wood, but modern fairway woods are now made of metal. They have more loft than the driver and are normally used from the fairway or for more accurate tee shots. Retail prices for a set of fairway metal woods would range from $150 to $300. Discount woods, or sometimes referred to as clone golf clubs, would run significantly less.

Hybrid golf clubs are a kind of cross between a fairway wood and a longer golf club iron. The shaft is usually a bit shorter, but the golf club hybrid head is similar to a fairway wood. They can be used from the rough or off the fairway and are very versatile golf clubs. Some are even used to putt from just off the green. Retail prices for hybrid golf clubs can be similar to a driver.

Golf irons are the essence of a set of golf clubs. Two thirds of the shots in a normal round of golf will utilize an iron. Irons are used to hit the golf ball off the ground from distances of 125 yards to 225 yards. Each iron is assigned a number based upon the loft angle of the club head. The 9-iron has the most loft, a shorter shaft, and is used to hit short, high shots. A 2-iron has very little loft, a longer shaft, and is used to hit low, long shots.

Golf club wedges are usually considered part of the purchase included in a set of golf club irons. The pitching wedge, the sand wedge and the lob wedge are common types of golf club wedges. The lob wedge can com in several different lofts, normally around 58 degrees to 60 or more degrees. These wedges are used from close range to the green for accuracy and control.

Golf club irons have two primary types to choose from. Fro the lower handicapped golfer, forged irons enable shaping of golf shots for easier draws and fades. For the higher handicapped golfer, cavity-backed golf club irons are more forgiving on off-center shots, have a larger sweet spot and allow the golfer to hit straight shots easier. A set of golf club irons is usually considered a 2 through 9 iron, a pitching wedge (PW) and a sand wedge (SW). This set of 10 irons can range in price from $250 up to and over $1,500. Knockoff golf irons would provide similar quality for a significant savings. These are also known as clone golf club irons or discount golf club irons.

The last and probably most utilized golf club is the putter. The golf club irons are used for the money shots. The putter is the money club. The old saying "Drive for show, putt for dough" is a very true statement. The putter is used on every golf hole at least once. The putter will be the golf club that ultimately puts the golf ball in the hole. This club provides the golfer the best opportunity to cut strokes from their golf round.

Being the most important golf club, the putter has gone through quite a change in recent years. The size and shape of the putter head comes in many different varieties. The shaft length also can be very short or very long and anywhere in between. Conventional putters, belly putters, mallet putters - the choices seem endless. Golf club putters also have a wide range of prices, ranging from around $20 to around $300.

Need Some Golfing Tips?

.

Ever watch golf on TV -- or perhaps a tourney in person? You see crowds of people watching the game, but very few actually playing. And even if you look at those playing the game, most would admit they would like to improve their game.

But they don't improve. Why? Because improvement comes with a price: a sizeable commitment in time and effort. Most players are not willing to make that sacrifice. If you are, then here are some recommendations on how you can improve your game.

First of all, as a beginner you need to concentrate on the fundamentals of the game -- your putting, your stance and posture, your backswing and downswing. You need to master these FIRST - so forget about everything else, and especially all the golfing hype that floats around the clubhouse.

In your quest to become a better golfer, another recommendation is that you hold off in buying video or audio training courses. If you feel you need instruction, seek it in person from a qualified golf pro. You will pay a good bit for these lessons, but you will be receiving your training where you need it most: on the course, not in your study or den at home.

But if you DO get the itch to buy something, there is one thing that will do you a world of good: a training aid. These are devices that will strap around your hands, feet, legs -- and they will restrict and direct your body movements as you swing and put. Put one of them on and just start practicing. After a while you will forget that you have it on. And long after you have taken it off, your body will remember what you have taught it, and will respond the correct way. A good training aid can become your secret weapon.

As you expand your abilities, you will need another round of training again. So what should you do? You guessed it -- head back for some lessons from your local pro. Why? Because you may have forgotten what you were previously taught -- and will need new lessons on topics such as: putting into the wind, getting out of sand traps, playing in the rough, distance putting, etc. No pro can teach you everything you need to know in one or two lessons.

Golf equipment -- big bucks for little return. That's true in most cases -- especially for the beginner and intermediate golfer. So when you are just getting started you can simply rent a set of clubs for your first couple of times out. For your first purchase I would recommend you buy a set of USED clubs. You'll save yourself a ton of money -- and you can put the money you save into lessons with your pro.

My final recommendation is this: Keep the game FUN. Don't get too serious about all of this. Learn to laugh at your mistakes and bad days -- and all of those hilarious shots. If you are busy having fun you will want to play again. And playing again and again is what will help you become good at the game. Trust me - I've lived to tell the tail. Here's to your success!

Golf Slice Advice

.

Read this article for information on how to fix your golf slice.

Slicing is the golfer's worst nightmare. Admit it, playing golf with a slice takes away the joy from the game, yet some people keep on slicing for years. The problem is not that complicated, all it takes is will to do it and knowledge, otherwise you will never experience golf to the fullest. So if you want to reach higher levels in golf, pay attention to the lines bellow.

Let's start with an explanation of what golf slice is and what are the causes. Here is the mechanical explanation behind a golf slice. Slice is a term describing a specific left-to-right type of trajectory of the golf ball for right-handers, opposite for lefties. A right-hander or a lefty, when a slice occurs, the ball ends up way right or left from the target area. If you examine the game of pro golfers, you will notice that they try to hit the ball squarely and straight, otherwise the ball wills spin which ultimately results in a slice.

To avoid slicing the ball, try to keep the club face squared during the swing until the very moment of impact. If you twist the club in left or right direction, you will slice. To achieve the ideal direction of the club face, you must have a correct grip, proper body setup and good body action.

To produce the perfect shot, you need to hold the golf club with the right pressure, position your hands correctly on the handle and perform a smooth swing. It's very important how you make the swing. Under or over-swing results in a slice.

To achieve a consistent and sharp golf swing, it's all about balance and rhythm. If you are nervous and perform the motion too fast, then you will loose your balance resulting in poor ball flight. Expert golfers usually say - "swing easy and hit hard." Having a right setup is also an essential element. You must have your weight equally balanced between your left and right foot.

At the end of the day, don't forget that golf is a mental sport. 90% of your game depends on your level of concentration. You must clear your head of all problems and stay focus on the golf course. When you become one with your swing, then you will produce the perfect shot.

Of course, nothing happens overnight. Even the best system doesn't provide instantaneous results. A lot of good and proven systems can be found online, but just buying one or several of them won't fix it for you. Practice makes perfect.

Beginners Should Get Started With Golf Instruction

.

Golf lessons really help the new golfer get off to a good start so they do not feel so uneasy out on the course with more experienced golfers. The rules and regulations that all golfers should know will be taught so that they do not annoy the other golfers on the course.

Golf instruction for the beginners will help them understand what is expected of all of those that share the beautiful courses around the world. The golf instruction for beginners will also help them understand the different types of clubs that are used on the courses. The golf instruction will help them use these different types of clubs.

There are several different types of clubs that are used to play a game of golf, and these clubs are used for different purposes. Golfers start each game with their woods, and golf instruction will help the beginners use these clubs. The instruction should help the beginners get a long, straight drive from the tee.

Once the golfers are on the fairways, the golf instruction should help them use the irons. Hopefully the beginners will not end up in any of the hazards on the course, but surely each golfer will end up in a trap or the rough at some time. Golf instruction will help the golfers when they are in trouble. Finally, good golf instruction will help beginners learn how to putt once they get to the greens.

Beginners Are Not The Only Ones That Use Golf Instruction

Most golfers want to improve their games so golf instruction is not just for the beginners. Even the pros will get some instruction from time to time especially if they seem to have some kind of trouble with a part of their game.

The pros might be hitting the ball off the tee with perfection but end up with a bad score because of their putting skills. These pros will look for some instruction from other experts to improve their games. Another pro will be able to watch their game and provide some instruction.

There are golfers that have no apparent problems with their game, but they continue to try to improve as much as possible. These golfers could be the talk of the club house, and will also consider more instructions to continue to move their game towards perfection.

There are several aspects to the game of golf to which many of these have professional instruction available. These pros can take a good golfer and make a significant improvement in their game. Sometimes all it takes is a little tweak here and there to see favorable results.

Save Over $1200 On Your Golf Clubs!

.

Summary: Professional golfers use name brand golf clubs that are specially modified and fitted to their exact specifications. They also have a load of talent and practice practically every day for hours. Unless you fit into this mold, you are an amateur golfer probably looking for a way to save money in your favorite hobby. Here is a way to save quite a bit on what's in your golf bag and still come out ahead.

Article: Brandt Snedeker fired a remarkable 63 in his final round at the 2007 Wyndham Championship with the help of his TaylorMade r7 driver. Now, you might be thinking that you should have what Brandt has in his golf bag. That way, you too can shoot a 63!

Eventually, you will come to the realization that you are not a professional golfer and won't come close to shooting 63 in an 18 hole round of golf. You will find that you can save a lot of money by choosing discount golf clubs over name brand golf clubs. You should also understand that Mr. Snedeker probably had his clubs given to him by the company.

Check what Brandt Snedeker has in his golf bag and how much those name brand golf clubs cost. $1809.00 is the grand total, if you were to buy those name brand golf clubs that are in Brandt's golf bag. Perhaps you have that kind of cash to lay down for a brand new set of brand name golf clubs. If you don't, then you are in luck as there is a different route to take.

Take a look at the clone golf club alternatives. The total for them is $535.00 for essentially the same golf club. That is a savings of $1278.00. Now that kind of savings would buy a lot of rounds of golf or the other rounds at the 19th hole.

So, you think that the name brand golf clubs perform better? That would be a valid argument if you were one of the top golfers in the world. You probably are not. If you cannot tell the difference between the name brand golf clubs and the discount golf clubs, why not save over $1200.00 to be like Brandt Snedeker?

Another argument that does not seem valid is that the name brand golf clubs are built to your specifications. This is absolutely a good thing, but discount golf clubs can be just as easily built to your specifications for less. Any golf club can be built to your specifications, no matter the name on the golf club. You should have your golf clubs built to your specifications. Why not save the money and get more golf balls?

But what about the guarantee that comes with that name brand set of golf clubs? Well, guess what! Clone golf clubs can be obtained with a 30-day play guarantee. If you don't like the clubs after playing them for 30-days, return them. How many name brand golf clubs will let you do that? You can't lose!

Check out the prices for the name brand golf clubs in Brandt Snedeker's golf bag and the knockoff golf club equivalent.

Stronger Leg Muscles Will Improve Your Balance and Golf Swing

.

Golf fitness training is one of the best ways to lower your score. Many new golfers who have seen the pros on television get the impression that if you hit the ball as hard as you can you'll get to the green faster. Nothing could be farther from the truth. One of the first things that the local pro will teach you is to keep your balance steady during the entire swing. That way, the ball will go where you want it to go and not land in a sand trap.

Golfers need to strengthen the muscles they use in the game to a certain extent, but more importantly, they need to have them work as a team with muscles they don't use so much when playing the sport. Learning to coordinate all of the muscles together in a golf fitness training program will result in fewer sports related injuries.

If you only golf occasionally, you are going to feel sore by about the ninth hole. While this discomfort is caused by the twisting and turning of the back and legs it is also because you are working muscles that you don't use very often. This will influence how you finish out the game and how you feel after it. The best thing to do is use a golf fitness training regimen to warm up and stretch before the game.

Balance can be improved by using different muscles. Strength training the quads, the hamstrings and calves will also help improve your stance. If you combine the strength of your legs with solid upper arms and abdominals you will have more control over you balance during the stroke.

Strength training the legs will improve balance during the swing. This in turn can make sure that your legs are shifting your weight correctly so that when you make contact with the ball on the down swing, your weight is over your right foot.

There are many easy exercises that can help someone who only plays golf once a week. A golf fitness program will explain these exercises, but it is up to you to take a few minutes everyday so that you can strengthen these muscles. For example, there are back muscles called lats that you use during your swing. A few minutes of pull-ups will strengthen them so they don't cramp up during the game. For more information and golf tips visit http://www.golftipsofthemonth.com

If your courses aren't open all year round, keep up all of your golf fitness training program exercises. You'll be surprised at how quickly you bounce back if you do.

Advanced golf fitness training involves dedicating twenty to thirty minutes, three days a week to the exercises. During this time, you will use stronger weights and learn more advance stretching and strengthening exercises. Always keep your doctor updated whenever you start or increase any fitness training. They can talk you about diet and help you chart your progress.

There's a secret you can add to your swing for dramatic improvements in your golf

.

Want to know how to play better? Most pro golfers will tell you to develop your swing.

No-one denies that the swing is at the bottom of our game and that it has to be done right. But working on being stronger at the same time as they work on a swing is giving growing numbers of golfers more impressive score cards.

Being fit is one of golf's best kept secrets.

To be fit for golf you need well developed feet, knees, hamstrings, hips, arms, upper body and neck. Because these are the muscles and body areas that influence your score.

Only when you're fit can you handle the physical demands of golf, and fitness only comes with exercise.

Being flexible and strong is also needed for good golf. Good golfers have both, as you know when you see them swing so easily at the ball with the perfectly balanced combination of strength and flexibility. Power in poetic motion!

Strength is particularly important as this is what you need to build two other must-haves: stability and core rigidity.

Be encouraged and build your golf fitness because you can exercise at home.

Many golfers waste their time exercising in a gym to get fit. Because they are doing exercises without knowing what specific exercising helps which muscles and, therefore, their game.

Rather, you have to work on those specific parts of your body I've mentioned.

When you exercise for golf you not only look like a pro, you have a card like one.

Selecting the Right Golf Glubs

How do I go about selecting the right golf clubs and which one’s would suit me best? This question is asked by novices who want to start up in golf as well as by more established players who want to purchase some new equipment to help improve their game. The most important items of equipment that concern all players, whether novices or low-handicappers, are the clubs - their suitability and price.

The next question to answer is: "Where do I go?" You should start out by going to a PGA Approved Professional Shop for selecting the right golf clubs. But why? At one of these shops you will get expert advice on equipment, help with your game and, later on, a comprehensive repair service, all from qualified experienced golf professionals rather than from shop assistants, some of whom may not even know how to play the game.

Get help from a professional when selecting golf clubs.
The staff in many High Street shops are also more likely to be concerned with their company's turnover and therefore may not be particularly interested in the individual requirements of their customers. In some cases, all they need do is make a sale without worrying a great deal about the suitability of the goods sold. However, a professional will make sure that his customers will be able to use the clubs he sells because he will be in constant contact with them through lessons and membership of a club.

The most important thing for the novice is to acquire the knowledge and technique he needs to enable him to play golf to the best of his ability. This can be achieved only through the services of a qualified golf professional. However, professionals are only human and most feel that their pupils should purchase their equipment at their pro shops rather than at a retail sports shop as they have everything in stock that a golfer, novice or otherwise, requires.

Selecting golf clubs for the novice.
Starting with the novice, the best suggestion is either to buy a second-hand set of clubs in good condition or a quality starter set. At this stage, it is not good policy to overspend when selecting golf clubs. If you are starting out in golf, you may not know yet whether it is going to be your game. If indeed it does prove to be so, then you still do not know what standard you will eventually reach -another good reason for not overspending at this stage.

A good professional will always be prepared to take his customer to the practice range to assess his current needs and advise on selecting the best golf clubs for him or her. Being able to recommend the most suitable equipment for the individual does not always mean the most expensive. For the novice, many reputable companies offer their lower-end models as loss leaders. This means that quality is usually very high as they sell their products with the aim of attracting their customers to purchase their top-price models at a later date when they feel that they have improved.

The price of many top-range clubs is determined to a large extent by the amount of marketing carried out, not simply because of the higher quality materials used. The degree of workmanship that goes into producing these clubs, involving more precision and careful balance, especially in the shafts and grips, contributes to the higher quality. However, these factors will benefit only the more experienced golfer. Once the novice has become a more competent player he will probably wish to take advantage of these superior clubs, and he can trade in his second-hand or starter set and buy a set of clubs that will improve his play and complement his game.

Selecting golf clubs for more experienced golfers
Once you have mastered the basic skills and techniques, you can consult the professional on selecting a better set of golf clubs. You will find that you have now moved into the widest market in golf. By now, you will have some idea of what you require to help your individual game. You can discuss with the professional which of the models you prefer, with particular reference to the shape of the club, and ask him to make recommendations. This will involve deciding between a game-improving club, i.e. heel and toe weighted or peripheral weighted, and a blade-type club.

Game-improvement clubs: these are designed for middle-handicap golfers and cater for off-centre shots, by enlarging the sweet spot of the clubface and therefore allowing for a margin of error.

The two main types mentioned are easily explained. A heel and toe weighted club has the weight distributed at both ends of the clubhead, thereby widening the sweet spot. A peripheral weighted club has the weight evenly distributed around the perimeter of the clubhead, enlarging the sweet spot over all.

Blade clubs are the original shape of golf clubs with no thought given to helping the improving golfer. The weight on these clubs, generally, is evenly distributed, thereby leaving less room for error.

Regardless of whether you choose a game-improvement or a blade club, the professional will now be able to help recommend a suitable shaft flex, lie of the club, swing weight and thickness of grip for selecting the right golf club for you.

With all these things in mind, you now have to decide how much you want to invest.

Golf Tips - Learn Some Useful Tips To Lower Your Handicap

.

Golf can be a difficult game to learn and become very good at. Patience and discipline along with good practice habits are necessary in order to develop into a lower handicap player. Here are a few pointers that may help you on your journey to reducing your golfing handicap.

Swing Easy

Too many new players in an effort to hit the ball far think they have to put every ounce of muscle and effort into every swing. The truth is that the opposite tends to work better. Letting the club do most of the work is often the best idea when it comes to hitting the golf ball better.

Slowing down your backswing can often have the best effect in helping you to make better contact with the ball. When you slow down you backswing less things tend to go wrong as far as mechanics and you also automatically are putting less muscular effort into each swing.

It is important to not force the club on the downswing in an effort to create greater club head speed. It is better to let the club naturally drop through the hitting zone, remember that we want the most club head speed at impact and not at the top of the golf swing.

When you start the downswing think of pulling the club with your left hand as this will help to keep the club on an inside to out path and will also reduce the chances of your right hand getting involved in the downswing.

The right hand should remain rather inactive during a golf swing, if you start trying to use it too heavily then the club head will start heading down the wrong path of coming from the outside to in which will result in hitting slices.

The Importance Of The Short Game

For most high handicap players their short game presents the greatest opportunity to lower their golf scores. In order to improve the short game you will need to spend some time practicing it regularly.

Spend appropriate amounts of time on hitting wedge shots inside of 120 yards. Keep in mind that if you develop a good short game then this will also help your long game because you will swing with greater confidence knowing that even if you miss you have a great short game that can bail you out.

Many of the best players in the world learned the game from the tee back to the green. This is often the best way to learn golf so become an expert at chipping, putting and the wedge game before you try to master the long game.

Putting is arguably the most important aspect of golf as it can make a huge difference to your scores but you also need to keep in mind that putting is mainly about confidence. It is still important to practice and work on your putting mechanics but do not get obsessed with it otherwise you may risk getting the putting yips. Be consistent with your practice habits and in time your handicap should come down.

Golf Putting Tips To Help You Sink More Putts Consistently

.

Putting is a tough part of the game of golf yet it can also be the part that can dramatically lower your golf scores. Most people are actually naturally pretty good putters. If you watch a lot of kids you will notice that they tend to putt pretty well even without being given any instruction of any sort.

Most golfers struggle at putting when they start being overly concerned by putting mechanics. Developing a good putting stroke does matter so be sure to learn it well. Maybe take a putting lesson from a local golf pro. One useful thing to keep in mind about putting mechanics is to ensure that the golf ball is directly below your eyes.

This can be checked by placing a golf ball at eye level and then drop it to see if it hits the one on the ground that is in the regular position in your putting stance. Putters come in many different sizes and shapes. Try many different ones and purchase the putter you feel most comfortable using.

Remember that putting and even the game of golf in general is more an art than a science. Trusting your feelings is an important part of the game and sometimes things will not go your way even if you do everything right since there are so many variables that are beyond your control so be gentle on yourself and do not beat yourself up consistently.

Confidence is an important part of putting and is very important to become a great putter consistently. You must look at yourself as a great putter and learn to forget your misses. Think more about the putts you did make and replay them on a regular basis to help build your confidence.

A large number of putters doubt their ability to determine the speed on longer putts. A lot of golfers think that this is some special gift that only a few players have. The truth is that we all have good feel and touch as long as you trust your natural ability and do not doubt it. Make sure that you hit your putts without consciously thinking about putting mechanics.

As you are about to make contact with your putt it is important to focus your mind on the target you have selected. You want to reduce your thoughts as much as possible and simply allow your mind and body to make the best stroke possible. Do not start doubting your read or your stroke as you are about to hit the putt and avoid any thoughts of past missed putts. Follow some of these strategies to help you develop into a solid putter.

GOLF--Expert Ways To Instantly Improve Your Putting Skills

.

It really seems like putting ought to be the easiest part of playing golf. You're only trying to move the ball a couple of yards in most cases and the putting swing looks like a piece of cake. But for many players, putting is a source of endless frustration. Successful putting technique requires a smooth and precise movement and can only be achieved with repetitive training.

There is really no agreement on a perfect putting technique. When all is said and done, the perfect putting technique is the swing that puts the ball in the cup every time. Even though there are limitless variations, most players rely on one of these techniques: the Langer grip, the anti-yip grip, or of course, the orthodox grip.

A conventional putting technique is based on a grip with your palms facing each other. Your goal is to have your hands operating as one unit, not independently. Be as relaxed and free from tension as you can. Position the golf ball somewhat forward your stance. It's imperative to keep your eyes on the ball. As you putt, your hands' only job is to hold the club. Picture a pendulum controlled only by your shoulders. Visualize a triangle being formed by your arms and shoulders. Maintain that triangle all the way through your swing, from the backswing to the follow-through. You want the ball to roll without leaving the ground, so swing up and through the ball. Hold your follow-through and don't let your eyes lift too soon, but keep looking at the ground.

Now let's take a look at the anti-yip putting technique. What in heaven's name are the yips? The "yips" is the name given to involuntary muscular movements that can be detrimental to your stroke. When you're putting, it's usually something your left wrist is doing that's undesirable. An anti-yip putting technique is a great way to deal with this problem. To practice, grip your putter with your left hand located below the right-hand. Place your wrist alongside the shaft of the club. The anti-yip putting technique has the added benefit of making your left shoulder lower. Remember that the movement of your putting stroke should be controlled by your shoulders, not your arms or wrists, requiring practice to become acceptable.

Another popular putting technique is known as the Langer grip. It was developed by Bernhard Langer. The Langer grip goes even further than the anti-yip putting technique. It starts the same way: grip the putter with your left hand farther down the shaft than your right. But this time, you actually grasp your left wrist with the fingers of your right hand. Maintain a light grip pressure and relax as much as possible. The Langer putting technique is most successful when you're making the shorter putts.

Here are a few more tips for better putting: make sure that when you begin your eyes are directly over the golf ball. Keep your eye line parallel to the target line. Establish a steady, well-balanced stance. In your mind's eye, see the putter as an extended part of your forearms. What you're trying to achieve is a stroke, not necessarily a hit. The putter is swinging and the golf ball just happens to be in the way.

A lot of players have trouble keeping their eyes on the ball. This is bad for your putting technique because when you turn your head, your body turns at the same time. Do you consider yourself to be a disciplined golfer? Test yourself with this: on your next putt, try keeping your head down until you hear the satisfying plop of the ball dropping in the hole.
